Social Media Earnings

January 10, 2026

The holiday season has drawn to an end for most, and 2026 is upon us. I hope you were able to make the most of some relaxing downtime over the past few weeks, and have come out the other side feeling refreshed.

Some great news for us to start the year having been informed that Mortgage Domayne is a finalist in the 2026 Better Business Awards in the categories of –

  • Best Community Engagement Program
  • Best Customer Service
  • Best Large Non-Franchise Office

The awards ceremony takes place in mid-April – let’s hope all our hard work is rewarded on the night!

In the first weekly newsletter of the year, we look at how lenders treat income earned from social media, because while some teenagers are now locked out of Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, lenders are increasingly warming up to adults who make a living on those very platforms.

Yes, influencer income is now, in some cases, perfectly acceptable for loan servicing.

Once upon a time, home loan applications were all about payslips, tax returns and that one PAYG summary you forgot to download. Fast-forward to today, and the lending world has evolved.

Believe it or not, some lenders will now happily consider income earned from being an influencer – yes, the money you make convincing strangers to buy protein powder, skincare, meal kits, golf shirts, or whatever followers can’t live without.

If you’re imagining a credit assessor scrolling through TikTok trying to work out whether your “Day in the Life” reel qualifies as stable income, you’re not far off. But in truth, lenders are getting much more sophisticated about side hustles and modern income streams. As long as it’s genuine, consistent, and backed up with real financial documentation (bank statements, BAS statements, tax returns, platform payouts, etc.), influencer income can absolutely count toward loan servicing.

This means that whether you’re a micro-creator with a loyal niche audience or someone whose unboxing videos get more views than the nightly news, your social-media hustle might just help you qualify for a home loan. Some lenders even look favourably at brand-collab agreements and long-term sponsorships, especially if they show recurring revenue rather than one-off freebies.

Of course, not every lender is on board. Some still prefer old-school, “traditional” income, the kind that comes with a boss, a desk, and a mandatory Monday meeting. But the landscape is shifting, and flexible lenders are recognising that the modern economy doesn’t fit in the old boxes anymore.

So, if your ring light is glowing and your follower count is climbing, it might be doing more for you than boosting your ego – it might just help get those loan numbers across the line.

Welcome to lending in 2026!
